The Higher Level Stewardship agreement for White Downs became live on November 1st 2013 . Before the wet weather came upon us at the end of December we managed to complete the perimeter stock proofing, cut fire breaks creating public access all around White Downs and carry out a controlled burn.
We were hoping to install several stiles and kissing gates and replace three old unsightly entrance gates in the perimeter boundary hedge ,but the adverse wet weather and water logged ground has stopped us using a tractor in the area.
Eventually we will create total public access in and around White Downs and we will be hosting guided walks and talks .
Bostaze Bog (Boslow) NEW NATURE RESERVE !
We have conservation grazed this wetland area for the last nine years helping to protect one of the richest wetland wildlife habitats in Europe. The Cornwall Wildlife Trust have now purchased the site and it is now known as “Bostraze Nature Reserve.” Much of the Reserve is not classified as public access land but the Wildlife Trust wants to create total access for the general public to enjoy this unique wonderful place. We are looking forward to being involved in this brilliant project !
Hayle Towans sssi Projects.
Another site has now come on board , so we are now conservation grazing four Towan sites near Hayle. There has been a great deal of public interest in our ponies on the other three sites over this winter . The ponies are being visited and fed treats by many people and families who enjoy walking out on the Towans to see them .The feed back we receive is brilliant!
