The most effective way to control Bracken has proven to be, first treat the Bracken with the very selective and safe herbicide Asulox and then follow this up with an extensive grazing regime with cattle and ponies. Sheep are not so suitable as they tend to create small overgrazed lawns which encourage the spread of bracken.
Successful results in Bracken management are clearly evident at Lanyon Quoit, Menatol Croft, Old Bosilliak Village, Dry Carn, Wheal Buller/Boslow, Madron Carn and most notably at Bosporthennis Farm which includes Hannibal's Carn and Little Galva. All the initial work was done by Gerald Babcock Rural Services who have also had excellent results at Garrow Tor on Bodmin Moor. Gerald Babcock is a member of The Heather Trust (a national body) and is very proactive as a ground based contractor.Learn More
